Hometown Girl
El Dorado is known by many locals for it’s down-to-earth, hometown feel, making it an ideal place to call home. Misty Banion is one of those locals, enjoying all the activities and atmosphere that El Dorado has to offer. For the past 19 years, Misty has called El Dorado her home, only leaving for a brief period while attending K-State. After graduating with her teaching degree, she went on to teach in the Rosehill school district, working there with the 4th graders. One of the aspects about El Dorado Misty likes the most is the fact that the younger generation is getting involved in the community.
Shop 'til You Drop
El Dorado has a variety of shopping opportunities, providing something for almost every taste. Misty herself enjoys a number of the shops, however a few stand out as her favorites. Robin’s is the place to go for fun fashion and cute atmosphere, which is why Misty calls this store of her top picks. Walter’s, too, with it’s quaint atmosphere, and delightful array of knick knacks and home décor items has earned a place on Misty’s list of top places to go in El Dorado. Last, but certainly not least, is Hibbet Sports—Misty most frequented store. Being an active person, Misty enjoys the variety that Hibbet’s has to offer.
To anyone new, or visiting El Dorado, Misty recommends that they check out Sweet 120, our local gourmet chocolate shop, where anyone with a sweet tooth will find themselves wanting to stay forever. Misty would welcome other types of clothing stores to add to El Dorado’s shopping selection.
Something Different
Being an active person, Misty enjoys getting out of the house and spending time with friends, doing a variety of local activities. Going to the movies—either at the local theatre, or the Star-Vu drive-in—is something Misty loves. She also takes pleasure in visiting El Dorado Lake, finding it one of EL Dorado’s best attractions and a fantastic way to meet new people. Misty would recommend that all visitors of El Dorado check out the lake, and see for themselves all that it has to offer.
During the summer months, Misty enjoys playing on the slow pitch softball team with her friends, because it is something different to do, and is a fun, competitive activity. In the past, Misty also enjoyed Prairie Port’s mud volleyball tournament, and currently enjoys playing regular volleyball at the lake, or out at Butler Community College.
Night Life
Willie’s is a popular sports bar that is well known by the locals for its good food, upbeat atmosphere, and of course the wide variety of sports channels they always have playing. Along with having a soft spot for their cuisine, Misty also likes singing karaoke with her friends, and thinks visitors would feel the same. Fiesta Mexicana is another restaurant Misty visits because of the tasty, authentic food, and festive atmosphere.
During the summertime, El Dorado also boasts a few snow cone stands, where Misty loves to go to get a refreshing, icy treat on a hot, summer afternoon.
With so much to do, and so much to see in El Dorado, Misty has one suggestion for visitors: come check out all El Dorado has to offer you!
