Large events fill community summer calendar
Three large events are making El Dorado a busy destination this summer.
Community marketing manager Molly Denton said the city’s Convention and Visitors Bureau has been working for several years to bring the events to the city.
- Drums Across Kansas – 7 p.m. July 17 at BG Products Veterans Sports Complex, SW Haverill Road.
For the second year in a row, Drums Across Kansas will present this family-friendly event in El Dorado, featuring six drum corps.
- Kansas Shrine Bowl – July 28-29 at BG Products Veterans Sports Complex, SW Haverill Road.
The city won the bid for the 44th annual Kansas Shrine Bowl to support the Shriner’s Hospital. Additional events surround the football game, which will take place at 7 p.m. on July 29.
- Dam Music Festival – July 28-29 at El Dorado Lake. Event organizers chose El Dorado Lake to be the site for this brand-new lake party, featuring country music acts, camping, swimming and fun.
Denton credits BG Products Veterans Sports Complex for bringing two of these events to town. Although the Kansas Shrine Bowl and the Dam Music Festival will be held on the same weekend, Denton said she believes the town will welcome all of the traffic.
“It will be a very busy weekend,” she said.
Denton said it is important for the Convention and Visitors Bureau to draw tourists to El Dorado.
“I think it’s great,” she said. “Not only does it bring in sales tax dollars, (these events) will draw big crowds, and people might continue to come back again.”
